Tete Getty is the pen name of Getty Musiiwa, Moyo Netombo, “Vanyachide” — a direct bloodline descendant of Changamire Dombo I, born Domborakona Chingwangwô, Supreme Lord and Founder of the Rozvi Empire (c. 1684–1695).
She is an independent African researcher, writer, analyst, publisher and cultural observer, holding a BA Honours in Development and Peace Studies and a MADip in International Politics and Security Studies from the Institute of Peace and Security Studies (IPSS).
Her work explores African history and heritage, Great Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe Plateau civilisations, decolonisation, cultural restoration, geopolitics, African political economy, economic and value sovereignty, international relations, African identity and knowledge systems, spirituality and the African diaspora. She also has a particular interest in the history of science, archaeoastronomy and space weather, exploring connections between African knowledge systems and modern scientific inquiry.
She is the founder of the Tete Getty Research Institute (TGRI), Tete Getty Academic Press and Research Hub, and the Africa Arts Society in the UK. She is editor of TGRI’s Journals — The African Journal, The Second Great Zimbabwe Economic Journal, The Women and Girls Journal, The Environment and Conservation Journal, and The SADC Journal.
Her research is published and preserved through TeteGetty.com, TGRI, Zenodo, SSRN, ORCiD and Figshare, alongside her wider academic and popular contributions.
Tete Getty sees independent research as a form of academic freedom — the freedom to ask difficult questions, cross disciplinary boundaries, follow evidence and develop African-centred scholarship without being confined by institutional agendas.
She is also, proudly, a bit of a nerd — fascinated by history, science, technology, artificial intelligence, film, storytelling, ancient civilisations and the occasional dragon. When she is not researching, she curates history and science memes, because even serious scholarship deserves a laugh. 🇿🇼🫶
