Abstract

This investigative journal examines the public rhetoric, media interviews, and political mobilisation of Jacinta Zinhle MaNgobese Zuma, founder of the South African civic movement March and March. Through forensic analysis of her television appearances, social media output, and public statements between March 2025 and July 2026, this study documents a systematic pattern of disinformation, misinformation, and algorithmically amplified xenophobic mobilisation. The research situates her rhetoric within broader frameworks of conflict prevention, regional destabilisation, and the securitisation of migration in the digital era.

Key findings include:

(1) the inflation of migrant numbers by factors of 5–12× above verified demographic data;

(2) the criminalisation of entire population groups through unsubstantiated claims linking migrants to crime, drug trafficking, and economic displacement;

(3) the deployment of coordinated inorganic amplification (‘buzzer networks’) on social media platforms;

(4) measurable economic damage including factory closures in the KwaZulu-Natal garment sector, spaza shop ecosystem collapse, and investment confidence erosion; and

(5) the progressive expansion of the category ‘foreigner’ from African migrants to encompass Muslims, Somalis, Pakistanis, and — in recent rhetorical shifts — white-owned businesses.

The study concludes with an analysis of the impending regional and European consequences, including the potential return of approximately 40,000 British retirees from South Africa to an already strained UK housing and social care system.
